Why does my lower stomach hurt so bad during my period?

I'm 17 and I've always had horrible pain everytime I have my period and when I mean horrible is to the point where it would trow me into bed and I would have to curl up in a ball in tears... Its really bad and nothing I take helps...could it be a cyst? Please help me!!!
