What happens if you give a puppie 2 tums?

Yesterday my dad without knowing, gave 2 tums to our puppie who was trowing up. Later when i came back from work he was whining of pain and his stomach was swollen, so we took him to the emergency room. now his kinda okay, but i want to know if the tums cause this to him. thanks :)
